Al began his professional career in the year 2000 as a rock climbing instructor in the eastern United States working as both a mountain guide and technical rope instructor.
In 2001 Al branched into independent security contracting for the maritime industry attached to cruise ship operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Al’s responsibilities included security assessments on critical infrastructure, port facilities, shipping lanes, medical facilities, and trends and conditions effecting local crime, law enforcement response and pier security. Al has worked with and alongside members of the Mexican, South American and Caribbean security establishment providing SOP/SOG’s and assistance with the recovery of guests and crew from port back to the ship during emergency, life-
In 2009 Al became a Deputy Sheriff with a large sheriff’s department in central California. Al’s tenure as a patrol deputy saw him immersed in gang suppression, crime investigation, drug recognition and investigations, domestic violence and the detection and interdiction of large, illicit, outdoor marijuana plantations as a member of the department’s marijuana eradication team. Al has been recognized in the California judicial system as an expert witness on defensive tactics, narcotics, and tracking in rural environments.
On a summer morning in 2014 Al responded to a home invasion in progress and was the first officer on scene with one perpetrator in a home occupied by a single woman and her children. Al contacted the subject, a known homicide suspect, who had a violent history and had required a full SWAT team response during a previous confrontation with law enforcement. The subject initiated a physical confrontation with Al as responding units arrived on scene and made their way to evacuate the victims to safety.
